It was nominated for 4 Oscars, such as Best Supporting Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Art Direction, and Best Picture. However, it didn't win anything.

Text Box: Finally in 1996, the most famous version of Romeo and Juliet was created. It was directed by Baz Luhrmann, and screen play written by Craig Pearce. It was released on November 1, 1996. It was a more modern version, that appeared not only on major movie channels, but also MTV! It took place in modern Verona, but still spoke in the original "Shakespearean". The critics raved about the film, quoting "Shakespeare made sexy for the teen generation". -New York Times (1996). The film was nominated for 32 awards in all, winning 13 of them. Some of their wins included: Award of Distinction, Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music, BAFTA Film Award, David Lean Award for Direction, Alfred Bauer Award, Silver Berlin Bear, Blockbuster Entertainment Award, ALFS Award, MTV Movie Award, Golden Satellite Award, and the YoungStar Award.
